The Go Anywhere Mug

bereavement

The truth about grief: grief is primal emotion - raw and intense - a dark and painful abyss. We meet ourselves through the mirror of other, sometimes agreeably, often disagreeably so. No matter the nature of the relationship, we lose a voice, a body, a heart, that one unique witness to this one we are, and so, are severed from our own being in a distinct and particular way. There is a great challenge to see ourselves now, without this mirror. No less to convey to loved ones who want desperately to bring us back across the canyon, just how unsteady and unsure we are about taking the next fork in the road.

Each day is different. Each second is different. Without warning, a moment of delight can be washed over with a deluge, a tsunami, without our permission to disorient and dismantle us in these unforgiving ways.

How do we begin to tell the truth to ourselves that we have died, too? That life as we knew it is over, that it is difficult to speak, uninteresting to care for ourselves, a vast challenge to walk and to breathe?  How do we tell this truth to others? How do we imagine ourselves capable of moving ahead, of becoming a new self, of rediscovering joy and passion?

I am honored to walk with you into the rooms of grief's own deep longing. Honored to wait patiently with you at the doorway of each room, holding each breath, each step, each awakening, as precious space, precious healing.

There is no pathway home that leads away from the self. We imagine leaving home, wandering, and returning home again. Again and again, this is our spiraling dance in the rooms of this world. Dancing through loss, dancing through discovery, dancing to the music that rises and falls, with no final note.

You are not alone. You, as THIS, have good company!
