Diving Deeper: To Die Your Own Death Illuminating and embracing the places that scare us A three-session online 'retreat' of compassion, contemplation, and community sharing
For many of us, contemplating our own death is akin to walking on a red hot bed of coals. We can avoid the coals, yet their nature is still fire. As we step closer, we find that it is the fear of fire that consumes us, long before the coals ever ignite. Consumed by the phantom of death, our lives are ghost-like embers of the blazing fire that we are.
Acknowledging and embracing our own death fans the fire. Here is an opportunity to live our lives with freedom, passion, creativity, love, and imperturbable joy in the face of whatever comes next. We may discover and appreciate the ability to meet life in all of its designs, not as we want it to be, but as simply and gracefully as we can, just as it is.
You are invited to again dive into deep presence through practicing ordinary, everyday awareness. Building on our work in Embracing our Impermanent Nature, we will contemplate how to be with the death of loved ones, and how to die to our own body, at the moment of our death. As true understanding arises and grows around the nature of our death, the nature of our life is revealed in each breath, movement, utterance, interaction, and circumstance as a breathtakingly real and beautiful. In the face of such beauty, only our true nature remains.
Our circle is open to nine participants, and is a safe and intimate experience, currently held online in three sixty minute sessions. We begin each circle with a talk on how, why, and where we do this work. Breath work, guided meditation, facilitated awareness exercises, creative expression and group sharing are our touchstones for each session, all practiced from a still, quiet center. Embracing our Impermanent Nature is a prerequisite for attending this retreat.
